Soho Asian Bar and Grill: Where Aventura Orders Kung Pao and a Tomahawk at the Same Table
A cinnamon stick arrives standing upright through a lamb kabob, planted in a bed of eggplant under a slick of tahini. Two tables over, a cote de boeuf comes out on a board, bone in, thirty two ounces of prime ribeye with mushroom ragout banked against it. Behind the bar, purple and gold light washes across cream coloured walls, and the room noise has already passed the point where you lean in to hear the person opposite. It is a Tuesday. Outside, NE 29th Avenue is a flat suburban retail strip with a free lot, the kind of address that gives you no warning at all about what sits behind the door. Soho Asian Bar and Grill has been working that gap between exterior and interior since 2010.
Most kosher restaurants pick a lane. Soho refuses to, and the menu runs long enough that a first time table needs help reading it. There is a wok section, a sushi counter, and a charcoal grill, and none of the three is decoration for the others.
